The Women’s League of Health and Beauty (WLHB) is a national charity, the oldest in the fitness field in the UK. The charity’s working name is FLexercise (as from 2017) previously Fitness League from 2000.
- It promotes physical fitness and training, providing education of teachers in the FLexercise system and the provision of classes and associated events
- It provides a support structure for the encouragement of teachers in initial training and through life long continuing professional development.
- WLHB is an associate member of Sport & Recreation Alliance and a founder partner of EMD UK (Exercise Movement and Dance Partnership)

The Board is looking to co-opt new trustees with one or more of the following skills:
- Knowledge of IT and social media
- Knowledge of the fitness industry – this would be an ideal opportunity for a middle manager to add charitable experience to their CV.
- Financial understanding gained from business experience or from voluntary activities
- Business acumen to further the development of the organisation – particular understanding of how management/HR/finance/marketing work together
- Readiness to attend circa 5 board meetings in central London per annum plus a willingness to serve on a virtual committee appropriate to their skills.
Knowledge of some of the following would also be an advantage, however these skills are desirable and not essential.
- Governance as it relates to a registered charity
- The fitness industry
- Physiotherapy or medical rehabilitation
- Social media and marketing
- Training and education in the exercise environment
- Ability to understand basic financial reports and annual returns
Existing trustees have worked over the last two years to modernise and rebrand the charity. They are now looking to recruit trustees who can build on the foundations and “add value”. Where necessary training for trustees will be provided.
The appointment is not remunerated but all expenses, including travel, will be re-imbursed.

The Board has a vacancy for a Clerk to the Trustees and Company Secretary – a work specification below.
There are circa 5 board meetings in central London per annum plus the AGM (generally a board meeting is arranged for the same day). Attendance at some other meetings may be required.

£3,000 per annum plus agreed expenses
Main Functions
To act as Clerk to the Board of Trustees of WLHB To advise the Board of Trustees when appropriate
Accountable to:
Chair of Trustees
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate and service meetings of the Board of Trustees – agenda preparation, writing minutes, circulating documentation, booking venue
- Arranging AGM/EGM of the Charity – booking venue; preparation of notice of meeting; working with Management Team for the preparation of the Annual Report its printing and circulation; preparation of Trustee nominations; administration of proxy voting
- Organisation of AGM/EGM on the day to include preparation of notes for the Chair, arrangements for recording attendees, writing and circulating minutes
- Co-ordinate the applications for new trustees and relevant paperwork
- With co-operation from the Management Team liaise with accountants appointed by WLHB Trustees
- Complete annual returns to Companies House and Charity Commission
- Receive reports from all Committees for circulation as required to Trustees
- Communicate with Management Team decisions and requests of the Board of Trustees and vice versa
- Facilitate other committees as required
- Ensure all policy documents and risk register are up to date
- Ensure that WLHB Articles of Association are adhered to
Qualifications/ Education
The consultant should have a good standard of general education
Experience
The consultant must be able to demonstrate efficient administration and business skills

- Computer literate
- Good communicator
- Able to work well as a team member
- Able to prioritise and work well under pressure
Desirable
- Interest in sport, dance or physical education
- Experience of similar role
