Healthy Hot Chocolate – Foodie Friday

This is a truly scrummy hot chocolate drink. A healthier choice but perfect for a chilly day. We’ve used almond milk to keep it naturally vegan and gluten-free. It’s really simple to make however if you fancy a richer version then opt for coconut milk.

What is raw cacao powder?

Raw cacao powdered is a less processed form of cocoa powder. The beans are dried at a low temperature before being ground. Cacao powder is a healthy, nutrient-rich, delicious-tasting food. It contains a lot of minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron, and antioxidants. This is a drink you can enjoy and not feel guilty about because it has lots of health benefits.


  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao  powder
  • 1 Tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt


Put all the ingredients into a saucepan and heat slowly, Use a whisk to blend it all together and to get a bit of frothiness to it. Don’t let it boil, serve it warm, and if you want to be naughty top it with whipped cream a little grated dark chocolate, and marshmallows!
