June Todd from Kirkcaldy has always been passionate about dance. Unfortunately, she’s been struggling with osteoarthritis but that hasn’t stopped her from exercising. We’ve chosen her to be our first Member of the Month of 2019.
Burlesque Dancer June Todd
After recently turning 50 and with one half knee replacement and the other one partly fixed and a bulging disc! I decided I needed to get some structured exercise.
I have 2 dogs which need to be walked regularly and burlesque dancing is a passion of mine, it’s something I really enjoy. So with my aches and pains, I realised I needed to try some exercise that might ease my condition. It had to be something that wasn’t going to put too much of a strain on my joints. Looking through the local paper one day I happened to come across an advert for FLexercise in Kirkcaldy. It sounded great fun so I thought I’d give it a go.
When you have osteoarthritis, it’s important that you pace yourself. The exercises and FL technique we do in class really helps my condition. Together with the friendly class members and Rhona’s sense of humour and enthusiasm, I’m finding that exercising is really enjoyable. Plus Rhona is a great teacher, and everyone is so welcoming. I would recommend to anyone who’s suffering from osteoarthritis to try FLexercise, remember to listen to your body, but keep moving.
If you’re suffering from any form of arthritis, Versus Arthritis has some great advice on exercise and how to manage pain.
