Excitement is brewing amongst our members in Wales! We asked choreographer Chris O’Rourke to update us on rehearsals and what inspired her to choreograph again.
It’s nearly here! The 90th Anniversary of our amazing organisation. The Women’s League of Health and Beauty was founded in 1930 by Mary Bagot Stack and our heritage is incredible. However, we have moved and danced with the times and are now known as FLexercise. So as you can imagine I was really pleased to be asked to choreograph a piece for the celebration show in Bath this year. We have 16 members and 4 teachers from South Wales taking part in the Welsh Team’s performance. We all come from different backgrounds and span from Swansea in the west to Newport in the east of Wales.
Team Wales
We are all eagerly rehearsing to do our very best and as the time gets closer, the excitement is building, the work is getting stronger and we feel so much better for it. Best of all it’s wonderful to meet up with “old” friends, share stories of past performances and work alongside each other once again. But there’s no doubt these friendships are very special, and for many have lasted a lifetime.
My inspiration for the Welsh sequence is an amazing piece of music. I love it and it talked to me but most of all I wanted the team to enjoy it too. There is nothing quite like the joy of moving freely to a wonderful piece of music and sharing the experience with like-minded people, it simply lifts the soul. You’re probably all wondering what piece of music I’m using! But for now I’ll keep it a secret.
It’s such a privilege to work with this wonderful team of ladies. Their enthusiasm for our work is infectious and we can’t wait to share it with you!
The FLexercise 90th Celebration Show will be taking place at The Forum Bath
